National Poetry Writing Month: Day #9 (April 9, 2014)

Today’s prompttake any random song playlist (from  your iPod, CD player, favorite radio station, Pandora or Spotify, etc.) and use the next five song titles on that randomized list in a poem.

The songs that came up:

‘Gold’ (Spandau Ballet)
‘Stay’ (The Blue Nile)
‘Two bit’ (Frankie Goes To Hollywood)
‘The God of Small Caresses’ (David Sylvian/Jan Bang/Erik Honoré/Arve Hendriksen/Sidsel Endresen)
‘The Christmas Waltz’ (Nancy Wilson)

The result:

I’ve never danced the Christmas Waltz
There was never any reason to stay that long
except maybe for the girl in the polka-dot skirt
who was too engrossed in two-bit dance steps
with the God of Small Caresses to notice much
outside the circle of gold
