Bookstore Poem #678

I wrote this while listening to a story being read this afternoon…

I missed the thing she said
that got such a laugh
and prompted an aside

I was busy thinking
how her hair reminded me
of a younger Nick Lowe

I’m probably the only person in the room—
or in any of the previous rooms—
to come to this conclusion
after noticing how she tucks her hair
behind her left ear
and have the melody to “Without Love”
come storming through my thoughts
