Bookstore Poem #650

This one started from the title of a book I passed by.

Magic is dead
bludgeoned by the reality
of what we see and do

Experience and necessity
cruel and co-dependent
mating eagles, talons locked
plummeting to earth

For the rest, we have photographs
documents of the incident
fakery and deception

Someone writes a book
exposing the illusion
shovelling the final clump of dirt upon the grave
