Hope and consequences (a poem)

Not satisfied with this one, but I’m feeling really sleepy, and not inclined to do any more this evening.

I could show you optimism
with no thought for the consequences

Hope is the clearest sign
that something out there matters

But hold it too close and it only gets worse
with no way to finish the sentence

A clear line of sight to the adjacent field
has the village green all a-chatter

At the hour the morning come
the horse is out jumping fences

I could show you disappointment
life is rife with consequences
