National Poetry Writing Month 2019 Day #28 (pt. 2)

Here is my Day 28 poem using the napowrimo.net prompt: Write a meta-poem—a poem about a poem.

‘Do you know me now?’

I’ve asked the question many times
but silently
so that not even I can hear

I’ve picked through the history
it didn’t happen quite the same way
but I recognize signs in a line or two

I’ve seen artefacts
I didn’t realize I’d left behind
and have struggled without

I’ve seen metaphor
I would have struggled to fulfil

But in the end
it was true:

I was happy
