Here is my poem for Day 26 using the POETRYisEVERYTHING prompt: Write a poem that incorporates things other people say.
It’s kind of weird…
His father said something like
‘If it looks like a duck and walks like a duck, he’s probably a crook’
I don’t know if the crook looks nervous
but he probably should be
simply having your lawyer file the paperwork
is not going to be enough to save you
from the final judgement
Don’t expect St Peter or God to welcome you with
‘I’m glad you’re here’
Think of some of the great novels—
how good do you think your chances are?
Well, I don’t think we’re looking at a dead duck walking
especially if the hunters can’t be bothered to use their rifles
And Bugs and Daffy and Elmer aren’t going to magically appear
to argue about which season it is
and who should be shot now
until the punch line appears
and the Merrie Melodies® end theme plays
By that time, it’s going to be too late
Porky will run off with Petunia
and there’ll be no bacon for breakfast
