National Poetry Writing Month 2019 Day #25 (pt. 2)

After giving up on the Day 24 prompt because I couldn’t find song lyrics to rewrite, here is my poem for Day 25 using the POETRYisEVERYTHING prompt: Alliteration!

Bated breath brings back bitter fruit
faded faces from foreign places
filling backpacks and file folders
with poetic pieces in states of stasis

My memories make minor matters
into mounds of malleable mystery
twisting tall tales of temptation
into mountains of magnificent misery

Or that’s how it happened
until I left lengthy language alone
in favour of a lingua franca of feeling
unaffected, fully grown

Now nothing negates words of worth
when whispers wish for voice
whether vivid or whether vague
change can’t come without choice
