Goodnight, Sister Moon (a poem)

Sister Moon
shine upon the track
wail, cry, scream, and moan
she’s not coming back

Earth and wood and copper and steel
elements to mark the age
cut in half, count the rings
mark the numbers on a page

Ministrations are ephemeral
Sister Moon, she knows
the flickering of lights in the night sky
end in the withered petals of the rose

So she sleeps
as must we
