National Poetry Writing Month 2019 Day #8 (pt. 2)

Here I use the prompt: basically, to think of the jargon of a particular job or profession and incorporate it into a poem.

I chose to write about my last contract, in which problems with my nemesis at the client we were working for led to my contract ending several months early—and my nemesis being laid off herself at the start of my final week on the job…

She said her ask was clear
In the words of Max Headroom
‘asking is just polite demanding’

Maybe if she hadn’t cancelled the sync
at the last moment
our cadences would have aligned

there would have been no need
for push back or end runs

and the company would not have had
to make the difficult decision
to go in another direction
though they wish us luck in our future endeavours
