Waiting Room Poem #68. Ash Wednesday

The anticipation was horrible, the delivery not so bad.

The small specks of bone
don’t stand out
as much as I’d expected
they’re more like little bits
of seashell
that accumulate
at the bottom of the bag
after a day at the beach

A summertime outing
or sunset in the tropics

He would have liked that
