It doesn’t know or care why

What’s important
are its obsessions
with shadows
and composition

I pretend
the kiss never happened

I know that it did
because some nights
I don’t sleep well
trying to re-experience
how it felt

But I have to let the past
stay in the past

The kiss is
an innocent bystander
caught between
the desires of two people

Captured in a picture
with no control over the outcome
it means different things
to different people
