One of those random thoughts that occurred to me earlier this afternoon…
It is often said
that the definition of insanity
is doing the same thing over and over
and expecting different results
But, if you think about it
repetition is built into the game:
The sun rises—the sun sets
The moon waxes—the moon wanes
We breathe in—we breathe out
Food goes in—waste comes out
We sleep—we awake
We go out—we come back home
Yet we can do the same thing over and over
and never get the same result
Something is always changing
That’s why we are always trying something different
in hopes of achieving our aims—
the perfect score
the perfect job
the perfect kiss—
all of which seem out of our reach
no matter what we do
So, if things change
no matter what we do—
because they also say that change is a constant—
wouldn’t the true definition of insanity
be doing the same thing over and over
and expecting the same result?
