For my June writing challenge, I will come up with titles first, then write the poems. (Usually I think of the title last.) Today, I mark the 50th anniversary of the release of The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band by imagining how I spent that day…
I probably played with my friends for a while
or listened to records
or read a book
Mid-afternoon
I would have been sent to my parents’ room
to take a nap
(with my blanket, of course)
I would have got up around 4:30
and walked into the living room
(with my blanket, of course)
where my mom was watching The Mike Douglas Show
Around six
I would have noticed that the hands of the clock were moving
and repeatedly set the minute hand back
to the top of the hour
before realizing that I was never going to stop the clock
(I had no conception of time
I just knew that the hands of this particular clock
were going to keep moving
no matter how many times I tried to put them back)
After dinner
there would be more TV
then bed
