A writer—especially when that writer is a poet—is often filled with doubt…
A poem is a conversation
between the poet and the poet
or, sometimes, the muse
It’s not always comfortable
not always easy
Even when it doesn’t amount to much
it’s still necessary
if the poet is to keep on moving
The body gives the spirit a home
but words build the house
in which the poet lives
That means the poet is always waiting
for the walls to crumble
and hoping for the will
to crawl out from beneath the rubble
Because that new house
is waiting to be built
