ART 53, day 18

This Is Fifty-Three, day 18

I feel like I lost a bit of momentum today, even though I worked most of the afternoon and made some progress. I think the problem I’m running into is that I want this section to be adventurous, and even ‘weird’, but not for the sake of weirdness alone. In fact, I’m pretty sure that I’ll be re-doing a couple of the spreads I worked on today.

On the other hand, I did cut two or three more poems that don’t hold up on second or third glance.

Then, late this afternoon, I learned that the one writing group I had left is now kaput. At this time last year, I was in two writing groups; a few months later, a third opened up. Unfortunately, that third group never materialized, and the first group I had joined sputtered to a quiet end. Now they’re all gone, and there’s nothing promising on the horizon.

What I liked about the groups I was part of was that there was some critique involved. The second group was not as intense or in-depth as the original group, but both were helpful. There are other groups out there, but I’m not interested in groups that involve showing up only to write—I generally have no problem writing. What I like is feedback—i.e., questions and suggestions.

So it was a mixed bag of a day. Sometimes that’s how it goes…
