The numbers (a poem)

Yesterday was one of those days where I was largely unsatisfied with my writing. I thought this poem, written while watching Lost, turned out okay, though…

I don’t fear the numbers
In fact, I see all too clearly
what they are
enough to make me want
to turn away
in search of solace

But I’ve no one
to surrender to
If there’s solace to be had
it won’t be here
I will not be consoled
not now, not here

I know it’s not about numbers
there’s more than that to life
but I haven’t found
that answer yet
How will I know?
Maybe this isn’t the place
