Today’s writing prompt: How do you feel about the first blog post you ever wrote?
I wrote my first blog post (https://ordinaryaveragethoughts.wordpress.com/2011/02/12/hello-or-something/) in February 2011. Re-reading it a few minutes ago, I note that it’s not quite as clumsy and awkward as I had thought.
I also notice that it has mostly turned into something else. As I may have mentioned before, I originally intended this to be just regular-person, off-the-cuff writing about matters of the day, with no pretense of objectivity or scholarship. Just real, gut-level opinions. Naturally, that was before I realized that there are enough people doing that already.
Eventually, my attention turned to another blog, The Lifelong Mixtape, which was to be an attempt at biography told in terms of the music that I was listening to at the time. I was actually making a bit of progress, but real life then intervened, and I lost interest. For now, I’m leaving it up, but I’ll probably be taking it down soon. I don’t need two blogs to do the job of one.
But, back to the question at hand. Overall, I’m neutral about that first post. While I clearly haven’t done some of the things I had intended to do, it’s clear that some of those things aren’t as important to me as I would like to think they are. Otherwise, I’d have done them by now. At the same time, I feel good about the things I have been doing with this blog. And a few people actually read it from time to time…
