Today’s prompt is to write a ballad. I can do that…
On the Eve of Our Divorce
Don’t mention it again, my dear;
it really wasn’t much.
In all this time, what we’ve held dear
was just too hard to touch.
We couldn’t have been more surprised
the day things fell apart.
But, still, there was so much relief;
it opened up our hearts.
With these rings, we once wed
for better or for worse.
But then we found the dream was dead
and worse came to worst.
Now, as we walk to the courthouse
for the final decree,
you’ll return back to the ashes
and I’ll go back to me.
