The future used to be so fucking cool…

Forty years ago
none of this was a consideration

The future was going to be better—easier

We were going to have time
to do what was important

We were going to have peace and prosperity

We were going to be a planet
not a collection of nations

We were going to be explorers

We were going to be the Federation

We were going to be scientists, rock stars, dancers, and presidents

We were going to get rid of nukes
and harness energy from the sun

We were going to have flying cars
and Holiday Inns in space

We were going to wipe out disease
and live forever

We were going to be equal in every way

We weren’t going to do this

We weren’t going to have this

We weren’t going to be this

So now what?
