It’s no ‘Disaster in the House’ or ‘The Roof is on Fire’, but here it is.

Our wretched refuse live in a house of white
built by muscle black and brown
and occupied by Agent Orange

The race no longer goes to the swiftest
the aging tortoise blocks access to the track
drunk with power after defeating the lazing hare

The ant is now in cahoots with the grasshopper
but Aesop is no longer here to rewrite the fable
and the head of the printshop is asleep at the table

Pages are being ripped out of the book
and we’re either too scared or too angry to look

Meanwhile, the bookpile is growing and growing (and growing)
a man in brownshirt readies a match
