Bookstore Poem #486

Today was my first real outing since the snow started two weeks ago. Strange thoughts coming out…

Hard masses beneath the skin
are where the tightness converges

This does not feel human
but the raised surfaces
and my ability to move
prove my impressions wrong—
as always

Causes disguise themselves
as ordinary annoyances
enabling them to do their work
while I dismiss my concerns
or look elsewhere

Intuition is too trusting
but too full of doubt
to just let itself happen
and stand where it will be seen

An oath is rejected as too confining
I’ve got to have room
to turn around

Come on down:
does this feel strange to you?
