Bookstore Poem #468

Still thinking about unexpected stuff I hear.

I hear little things
now and then
from one about the other

Thirty years and on
since they hung it up
and moved along…

The bank is full of secrets
for the telling—
or it was

Some revelations
may never see the light of day
those that may
will have no defenders left
to counter with
their side of the story

Words will have to be taken
at face value
held up against
memories dim and rootless
of time and place
and nothing else

The situations they convey
may as well come with commercials
an optional laugh track
and a parade of logos after the credits—

but they all have to come from somewhere
