No weight like the wait (a poem)

Things change, and we have to figure out why…

Fiction opens doors
that don’t need opening
and closes those
that don’t need closing

Weight and fiction
are not interchangeable
they cooperate to give me
an idea I would not have come up with
on my own

The door to the real
is never chosen
it is blown open
and the real thrown at us
as the shrapnel
accompanying our existence

The fictions
are what we invent
to explain every little detail
