Waiting Room Poem #83

Rain this afternoon…

So many songs about the rain
make it into misery
or a minor landmark
staining the day

Others cloak it in severity—
a cloudburst
a torrential downpour
sheets of rain falling sideways

I have attributed rain
to the compassion of autumn

But it’s only weather, isn’t it?
