Something about the Dakotas (a poem)

(Not actually about the Dakotas)

A large weather system
moves across the state
and the five o’clock news

No one pays attention
because weather maps lack detail
during the afternoon commute

Plus everybody’s listening
to something else
and either singing along
or yelling at the radio

A large dark stain
at the side of the road
marks where something happened
but went unreported

Now it’s a landmark
people use when giving directions

Do you make that left turn
before or after?
