I should probably not have stayed up until 2 a.m. last night…

The pulse is strong
with this one

I can see just fine
but it feels like the world
is the upstairs neighbor
practicing the javelin
all night long
and I really need
to get some sleep

Meanwhile
my neck is so tight
you could bounce
a bowling ball on it
which would then go skyward
like a superball
in flight

There’s the old joke
about the lump of coal
that comes out a diamond

I don’t have to repeat it
you can always
hit play again

Time to pull the covers
over my head
and close my eyes
