I’m not dancing
the lake is deep and dirty
and unfit for human consumption
and the idea of treading water
for the next several years
holds no appeal whatsoever

Neither does yet another metaphor
involving water
and the potential for drowning—
we get it: life is difficult

Swallow and move on
