The muffler fell off
somewhere in Arizona

The axle fell off
in the driveway of the church

The front end of the station wagon
bounced up and down
as if on hydraulics or a trampoline
once we passed 50 mph
on the freeway

When we arrived
at our mountain-lodge destination
the car door wouldn’t close
「アメ車…」

Cars had a tendency
to fall apart
when I was a passenger

Now I only drive
