Morning Person or Night Owl?

Today’s writing prompt: Are you a morning person or a night owl?

I’m sensing a theme here…

I’ve already established that my favorite time of the day is that time between sleeping and waking up when everything is warm and fuzzy, stretching feels extra good, and my conscious mind has yet to fully kick in and imprint all its junk upon me. Depending on the circumstances, that could be just about any time of the day.

The “morning person or night owl” question is a bit easier these days: I’m more of a morning person. I much prefer to get to bed at a reasonable hour, so that I can wake up early enough that I feel like I’ve got a full day ahead of me. I’m not opposed to sleeping in—I do enjoy getting some good sleep, after all—but, if I wake up too late, it feels like the day is already half over by the time I’m up and running, which tends to dampen my enthusiasm for whatever projects I want to work on that day.

This wasn’t always the case. For a long time, my natural tendency was to stay up later at night. Not being on the same sleep cycle as everyone else meant that I could do things without being interrupted by the comings and goings of other people. I really liked having that quieter time to enjoy things, especially when I was engrossed in something particularly fun and/or interesting.

Though I will always want to have some “me time”, these days, I’m not so interested in isolating myself. I’m more interested in finding ways to enjoy myself with other people. Night owl tendencies make that more difficult.
