Mostly written while listening to several extended pieces by Ryuichi Sakamoto.
1
it’s in the water
living, breathing, dreaming
water
rain falls
tears fall
waterfalls
drops run down the lines
of the tarps covering
the boats in moorage
joining to form
a single stream
before running into the lake
before becoming the lake
2
some things that are not water
behave like water
mercury, blood, electrons
travelling in currents
aspiring to be water
3
agua
eau
mizu
vasi
wasser
woda
water
4
morning
condensation
mist
fine droplets
coat leaves
and stems
and petals
and windshields
pavement turns
a deep grey
water hides
in the pores and the cracks
waiting for rain
miles above
clouds grow heavy
awaiting the moment
when they can set the rain free
to glide home
on light breezes
or storm the coasts
on gale-force winds
when the sky has emptied
and sunlight breaks
through the trees
steam rises from the road
5
float
half above the surface
half below
feel the embrace
eyes closed
sleep
and dream of summers at the beach
with inner tubes and fins
and friends in tow
walking barefoot in the grass
on the way there
6
water is its own color
but it will become
whatever you will it
it will absorb
whatever you steep in it
water is a mirror
reflecting shapes in ways
no one ever thought to see
throwing light in all directions
luminous, sparkling, shining
splitting it into arcs of color
joining earth and sky
before disappearing
into the deep green sea
