has its own cast
hangs in a slightly different way

heavy
menacing
gloomy
tense
foreboding

Paper silences
are brazen
in-your-face
vicious
taunting

The inscrutable blank
of the empty page
sits there
in front of you
saying nothing
but daring you
to make that first mark

then it turns
into a funhouse mirror
on steroids
staring at you
with the distorted face
of your own words

grotesque
insistent
unrelenting

until the inscrutable blank
of the empty page
becomes the oasis
the mirage you will drink sand for
until you find it
